Under/Over-triage Spoon Feed

The Emergency Severity Index (ESI) mistriaged roughly 1 of every 3 patients who presented to 21 EDs in the Kaiser Permanente health system. 

                         

Abdomens and Opioids Spoon Feed

Patients who are discharged from the emergency department after presenting with abdominal pain and receiving opioids are 57% greater odds of return within 30 days. This population is also at higher risk for adverse effects from these medications.
